Is It Really Okay?

A recent survey by the Center of Disease Control and Prevention has reported that the rate of teenage pregnancy is not declining any more. And there are some shocking revelations about the changes in the attitudes towards becoming a teenage mother.

Teen Pregnancy

According to the report, nearly 64 percent of the teenage boys found it acceptable for an unmarried girl to have a child and more than 70 percent of the girls agreed with the boys.

Why is the acceptance of teenage pregnancies on the rise even though the medical community has been explaining the adverse impacts of young age pregnancies for so long? A majority of the teen girl pregnancies have resulted in broken families, children who have been neglected proper care, health impacts on the young mothers and higher infant mortality rates. Still, the teens of today find it acceptable to bear children during their teenage years without any commitments from the partners.

One of the main reasons, is the lack of education. Many teenagers believe that using the rhythm method of birth control is safe, when it is known to be not a 100 percent safe. The teen girls either may not be tract the ovulation which might not happen as it is written about in the books.

The pressure of not losing a boyfriend and therefore giving into his demand of having an unprotected intercourse is very likely to result in a teenage pregnancy. A teen girl often take the boyfriend to be one who would stay with her for a lifetime when as a matter of fact, that is not always true. The boys try to have multiple sex partners and the moment they realize that they have made a girl pregnant, they would break the relationship and move on without giving a second thought to the responsibility that they have left the young teen girl with.

Another belief is that using a condom can be safe. Yes, using a condom is a pretty reliable way to prevent pregnancies, but the condom should be used reliably leaving no chance of accidents.

Sex is a way of life. However, our last generation of the baby boomers made promiscuity a fashion. Sex is not sacred anymore. The results are unfolding in front of us as mothers who are themselves kids, and children who are sick, uncared for and who have a high mortality rate. It is in our hands to put a stop to teen pregnancies and create a better future for our grand children.
